Calgary, Alberta — September 15, 2023 — Backers Securities Inc. (“Backers”) is pleased to announce that it has successfully submitted all required documents to the Alberta Securities Commission under paragraph 3(1)(e) of National Instrument 45-110 Start-up Crowdfunding Registration and Prospectus Exemptions (“NI 45-110”). The completion of this filing process grants Backers an exemption from the dealer registration requirement, thereby authorizing Backers to launch its startup crowdfunding portal operations in the province of Alberta effective as of September 14, 2023.
Regulatory Compliance
“Provided that Backers meets and continues to meet all requirements set out in subsection 3(1) of
NI 45-110, it is exempt from the dealer registration requirement and can commence its funding
portal operations respecting crowdfunding distributions in the province of Alberta as of September
14, 2023. As a reminder, Backers is also required to comply with the requirements at subsection
3(2) of NI 45-110 in order to continue to rely on this exemption.” – ASC

By obtaining this exemption, Backers will be able to offer Albertans a new avenue for investment opportunities, especially for start-ups and smaller enterprises. This marks a significant milestone for both Backers and the Alberta investment community, as it opens up additional financial options for businesses and investors alike.
